Rodney M Dickerson

March 31, 1937 — December 24, 2020

Crooksville

Rodney M. Dickerson, 83, of Crooksville, Ohio died at 10:57 AM, Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville following an extended illness.

He was born March 31, 1937 in his family home on Tunnel Hill Road and as Rodney would tell the story, ‘under a pine tree’, the son of the late Dwight and Bertha (nee: Wiseman) Dickerson.

Rodney worked for a period of time at Ludowici Roof Tile Plant in New Lexington.  Following his time at the tile plant, he worked 22 years at Columbia Cement near East Fultonham.  He later worked at the Crooksville Water Plant.  He was an avid hunter, enjoying hunting coon, rabbit, deer and squirrel. He enjoyed having a big garden to grow vegetables for his family and he found peace and tranquility in mowing his yard, a task he loved so much.  Rodney became a member of Church of The Atonement Catholic Church shortly after he and Barbara were married  on December 21, 1956 because he felt that consistency in religion for his family was the right thing to do.  He was a quiet man with a bit of an ornery streak.  He loved his family dearly, their care and welfare was his main concern in life.

Left behind to mourn his passing is his beloved wife 64 years, Barbara R. (nee: Redfern) Dickerson; his children and their spouses, Beth (Bill) Rizer, Tim (Kathy) Dickerson, Paula Anderson, Tom (Beth) Dickerson, Ronda (Perry) Miller, and Rodney Andrew (Sonia) Dickerson; 24 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; his sisters and their spouses, Lela (Gene) Huddleston, Mona (Larry) Black and Martha Larig and his sister-in-law, Alice Redfern.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his wife’s parents, B.J. and Emma Redfern; his son-in-law, Mark Anderson; his grandson, Jimmy Dickerson; his brother-in-law, Clifford Larig and his niece, Lisa Nelson.

The family will receive folks to recite of the Rosary at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 28, 2020 at Church of The Atonement Catholic Church, 300 Winter St., Crooksville, Ohio. Following the Rosary, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Todd Lehigh as celebrant.  Rodney will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery near Crooksville.  Face coverings and social distancing will be required.
