Jack Phillip McIntyre

Jack Phillip McIntyre, 95, of Zanesville, Ohio, formerly of Crooksville died at 8:30 AM, Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Sterling Suites Rehab Center in Zanesville.

He was born October 4, 1925 in Crooksville, the son of the late Phillip and Blanche (nee: Roberts) McIntyre.

Jack was a graduate of McLuney High School where he played trombone in the band.  He then served our country in the US Marine Corps during WW2 where he participated in the invasion of Guam in 1944 and Okinawa in 1945. After his tour of duty, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Jean (nee: White) McIntyre on June 5, 1948.  He retired from Peabody Coal Company and was a 65-year member of UMAW Local 1340.  Jack was inducted into the Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame, was a member of Peerless Lodge 591 F &A M, Scottish Rite of Cambridge and Columbus and had served on the Bearfield Township Board of Education. In 1972 while on a fishing trip off the Carolina coast, Jack held the record for landing the biggest big-eyed tuna, weighing 253 pounds and measuring six feet, four inches.

Left behind to mourn his passing are his beloved daughters-in-law, Rita McIntyre and Deborah McIntyre; his dearly loved grandchildren, Matthew (Andrea) McIntyre, Maleah (Adam) Kendrick, Maxwell (Sachi) McIntyre and Jonathon McIntyre and his darling great grandchildren, Rylan Kendrick, Jaxon Kendrick, Garrison McIntyre, Hana Grace McIntyre and Ren McIntyre; his niece Debbie Morris; his sister-in-law, Helen Nelson; his brothers-in-law, Jerry (June) White and Paul (Adele) White and several nieces and nephews.  Jack will be greatly missed by his neighbors and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean who died February 24, 2015; his beloved sons, Phillip McIntyre who died August 3, 2019 and Kevin McIntyre who died June 18, 2020 and his sisters, Donna Hartman and Margaret Maxwell.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family has chosen to hold a graveside service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Community Gardens Cemetery on St. Rt 13 with full military honors.  Even though it is an outdoor event, it is recommended that masks be worn.  Jack will be laid to rest next to his wife.
