Howard Joseph Harris

Howard Joseph Harris, 87, of Crooksville, Ohio died at 12:50 PM, Monday, August 1, 2022 at New Lexington Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

He was born November 21, 1934 in Redfield, Ohio, one of nine sons of the late Henry ‘Buck’ and Blanche (nee: Larson) Harris.

Howard was retired from Peabody Coal Company where he had worked as an electrician and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.  He was a member of the New Lexington Eagles Aerie 2070 and VFW Post 9090 Crooksville-Roseville.  In his leisure time, Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.  He was Protestant by faith.

Howard will be sadly missed by his family and friends.  Left behind to mourn his passing are his children, Jill Harris (Beth) and Chris Harris; his brothers and their spouses, Henry ‘Buck’ and Shirley Harris, Norman Harris, Gene and Bobi Harris; his daughter-in-law, Peggy Harris; his nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Harris, Fran Harris and Bonnie Harris and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Norma (nee: Smith) Harris who died November 4, 2002; his children, Rebecca Harris who died December 11, 2020 and Scott Harris who died May 19, 2021; his daughter-in-law, Marty Harris; his brothers, Olaf ‘Doc’ (Helen) Harris, Bill Harris, Jerry Harris, David Harris and Bob Larson and his niece and nephews, Karen Harris, Randy Harris, Dwight Harris and Greg Williams.

Private family visitation will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2022 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where private funeral services will be held at 12 noon with Pastor Marc Caton as celebrant.  Howard will be laid to rest next to his wife in Crooksville Cemetery.
