Billy Joe (Powell) Johnson, 58, of Columbus, Ohio died at 2:30 AM, Friday, November 19, 2021 at Doctors’ Hospital in Columbus following complications of Covid-19.
He was born February 10, 1963 in Newark and was raised by his foster parents, Joseph Harry and Arlena Mae (nee: Inman) Powell.
Following high school, Bill joined the US Army where he was a member of the 101st Airborne Air Assault Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He married his sweetheart, Terrie (nee: Adkins) Johnson on September 19, 1992. He attended Columbus State Community College. Bill was an employee of Southwestern City Schools where he worked as a maintenance specialist. His leisure time was spent enjoying many hobbies which included forging metal, crafting figurines out of horseshoe nails and railroad spikes, refinishing wooden items and making furniture. Bill was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for 9-12 year old boys.
Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife of 29 years, Terrie; his son, Jacob Johnson; his cousin/sisters, Sue (John) Burns and Beverly Bankes; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Joyce (Adkins) Grimmett, Mark and Nadine (Adkins) Stack, Orville and Barb Adkins, Pete and Cindy Adkins, Rob Adkins and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brother/cousins, Jerry, Rick and Steve Inman, George Pride; sister/cousin, Donna McCabe and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gene and Patty (Adkins) Bidlack, Steve and Burma (Adkins) Embrey.
Family and friends will gather 1-3 PM, Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where funeral services will be held at 3 PM with military honors. Bill will be cremated following the service.
