William Neil Campbell, III, 58 of Nashport, Ohio , formerly of Crooksville passed away at 12:09 AM, Monday, September 7, 2015 at the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, following an extended illness.
Neil was born June 13, 1957 in Riverside, California, the son of the late William Neil Campbell, Jr. and Marie Fife Campbell of Crooksville.
He was the former produce manager for Giant Eagle in Columbus and had worked in various capacities in food service and management for numerous companies. Neil was a great cook and loved preparing large quantities of food for everyone for various occasions. Also, he had operated concession stands at ball fields, construction sites and wherever was needed. He had coached many baseball, softball and basketball teams and served as umpire for those sports. He once, single-handedly, organized a benefit basketball tournament for St. Rose Catholic School sports program. Neil served as Crooksville-Roseville Pottery Festival Chairman 1999-2005 and he volunteered at the Pottery Museum that is located between the two towns. In 2008, he was honored by Peerless Lodge 591 F. & A.M. as Man of the Year. Neil was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penquins fan. Serving our country for ten years in the US Air Force during Vietnam, he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and while serving in Germany, he coached the All Armed Forces Basketball Team. In addition, he was a member of First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville.
Neil is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy Ripley Campbell; his children and their spouses, Tiffany Pate of Frazeysburg, Michelle and Ric Roe of Nashport, Sheena (Campbell) and Josh Brown of Zanesville, Katie (Campbell) and Ernie Huber of Nashport and Bill 'Soup' Campbell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his sisters, Rebecca (Kenneth) McDonald of Roseville, Heather (Jim) Brehem of Delaware and Bonnie (Chuck) Goodwin of Columbus; his brother, Scott (Becky) Campbell of Wintersville; his grandchildren, Austin, Aubree, Jazzmin, Briauna, Juliette, Brendolynn, Ayla, Makenna, Preslie, Axl and Braxton and his canine buddy, Walker.
Family and friends will be received 3:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, September 10, 2015 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Neil's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 11 at First Hope United Methodist Church, 20 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville with Pastors Matthew and Gay Blau officiating. Full military honors will be presented at the church. Cremation will follow.
