William Lenord Hartshorn, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, in Crooksville, Ohio. Born on March 10, 1937, in Junction City, Ohio, Bill lived a life marked by service, devotion, and love for his family.
Bill's journey was one of dedication and patriotism, beginning with his enlistment in the Marine Corps and continuing with his re-enlistment in the United States Navy. Over the course of 30 years, he faithfully served his country, embodying the values of honor, commitment, and humility. His military career was a testament to his deep love for the United States and his unwavering sense of duty. Known for his simple and lovable nature, Bill touched the lives of those around him with kindness and warmth. He cherished his role within his family, especially holding a tender affection for his grandchildren. The joy and pride he found in them were evident to all who knew him, reflecting the central place family held in his heart. Bill’s life story is one of steadfast devotion—both to his nation and to the loved ones who stood beside him. He will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, whose patriotism and love enriched the lives of his family and community.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his wife, Catherine (Neff) Hartshorn and his grandchildren, Robert Monk, Haley Monk, Josh Hartshorn, Ashley Zackadilli and Cheyanne Zackadilli.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Mary (Fink) Hartshorn; his son, William Thomas Hartshorn; his daughter, Melissa Lynn Monk, his grandchildren, Samantha Zackadilli and Gregory Zackadilli and his sisters, Linda Boyer and Michelle Hartshorn.
In keeping with his wishes, Bill will be cremated and his remains buried with his son in Junction City Cemetery at a later date.
