Shirley Marlene Smith, 84, of Roseville, Ohio died at 4:07 AM, Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville after an extended battled with stomach cancer.
She was born September 26, 1936 in Crooksville, the daughter of the late Vernon and Bessie (nee: Bash) Whitehouse.
Shirley had worked for short periods of time at various jobs but after she began having children, she became a stay-at-home Mom, tending to the needs of her household for her husband and children. In her later years, she was always ready and willing to tag along with her daughter, Bobbi on whatever excursion came next, attending her grandchildren's activities and family gatherings. She was known to enjoy fishing on occasion. She had been a member of Crooksville Free Methodist Church for many years, but most recently, was attending Oakfield Wesleyan Church. Shirley was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her children, Bobbi (James) Walters, Daniel (Mary) Smith, Kevin (Bev) Smith and Tim (Amy) Smith; her grandchildren, Brian (Cindy) Walters, Rachelle (Shawn) Riley, Randy Joe Smith, Chris (Paula) Smith, Mindy Smith, Nathan James Seesholtz, Kahler (Katie) Smith and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Denny J. Smith who died July 31, 2009; her eldest son, Randy Smith who died June 6, 1986; her sisters, Carol Snyder and infant sister, Penny Whitehouse and her brothers, Gene, Richard, and Gary Whitehouse.
Family and friends will be received 5-8 PM, Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Funeral services and a celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 28 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Hinkle as celebrant. Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband in Community Gardens Cemetery, near New Lexington.
