Ruth E. Schmotter

Ruth Emily Schmotter, 97, formerly of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 4:26 AM, Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Emeritus at North Hills in Zanesville following a brief illness.

Ruth was born April 25, 1916 in Cincinnati, the daughter of the late Walter and Emily Vollmer Grossmann.

She was graduate of Withrow High School and the University of Cincinnati. Mrs. Schmotter was a long time Home Economics and English teacher at McLuney and Crooksville Schools and in Marietta for the first couple years of her teaching career. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Clionian Circle, Higher Ideals Music Society, Ohio Retired Teachers' Association and First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Schmotter and Daphne Jameson of Bethel, Connecticut.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Schmotter who passed away in 1994.

Family and friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Tuesday, May 7 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 8 at the funeral home with Pastor Gay E. Blau officiating. Ruth will be laid to rest next to her husband in Crooksville Cemetery.

Donations to the Ruth Schmotter Scholarship Fund may be made to Muskingum University, 163 Stormont St., New Concord, Ohio 43762. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
