Rosa Lavaughn Starcher, 98 of Newark, Ohio passed away peacefully at 7:15 PM, Friday, May 24, 2024 at New Albany Care Center.She was born October 7, 1925 near Amesville, the third daughter of the late Pearl and Edna (nee: Law) Ball. Rosa graduated from Capital University where she gained her teaching certificate and became an elementary school teacher, having taught at New Albany and Utica. She was a devoted educator and was revered by the many students she taught over the years. After retiring from teaching, Rosa worked part-time for twenty years at Park National Bank in Newark. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Licking County. Most recently, Rosa had attended Licking County Church of God. Rosa greatly enjoyed reading and she was very involved in the genealogy of her family. She did extensive research and complied a very in-depth family history. She and her husband, Harley enjoyed traveling as they took their children on many trips to see a great deal of the USA. Her baking was epic. Rosa was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. One of her greatest joys in life was doting over her grandchildren. She was dearly loved by all and will be sadly missed. Left behind to mourn her passing are her children, Karen Johnston and Ray and Brenda Starcher; her beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Beth Robertson and Adam (Ashley) Johnston; her adored great-grandchildren, Ethan and Emerson Robertson and Claire Johnston. In addition to her parents, Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, who she married on October 14, 1946 and who passed away on September 11, 2012 and her siblings, Lenley (Carol) Ball, Laura Fast and Belva Ball and her grandson-in-law, Dan Robertson. Family and friends will gather to pay respects to Rosa beginning at 10 am, Tuesday, May 28 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where funeral services will be held at 11:30 with Rev. Michael Ring as celebrant. Rosa will be laid to rest next to her husband and siblings in Mound Hill Cemetery near Amesville. Contributions may be made in memory of Rosa to Samaritan’s Purse.
