Ronald E. Stoneburner “Stoney”, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2025, at home, in his lifelong hometown of Deavertown, where he was the 4th generation to live on the corner of Stoneburner Road. He was born on March 5, 1933, in Deavertown in a community that would come to know him as a pillar of strength and compassion.
Stoney was an eater of sweets; he always enjoyed his wife’s cooking and anyone’s cookies and pies. Once asked, by his future mother-in-law, what kind of pie do you like, his response was “I like two kinds, hot and cold.” He loved spending time with his family, but you knew you were in trouble when you got “the look.” Stoney loved cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State football. With a twinkle in his eye, he always proclaimed, "Any team that beats the Pirates is worth cheering for!"
Throughout his life, Stoney was guided by his unwavering faith. A dedicated member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Deavertown, he served on the church's board, embodying a spirit of service and community involvement that touched many lives. He had a love of travelling, seeing new sites, and in his younger years raising and training horses. He particularly enjoyed the beauty of sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico and flourished during his years snow birding in Florida, where he created lasting memories with his late wife, to whom he was married for an extraordinary 69 years.
Professionally, Stoney was a proud union member of the IBEW Electricians Local 1105 for 68 years. Dedicating over 38 years of active service and 30 years retired to his craft. His commitment didn’t stop there; he was a devoted Past Master at Doric Masonic Lodge #172 for over 65 years, where he made lifelong friendships and contributed to the betterment of his community.
Stoney devoted his life to his family, serving as a loving caretaker to his beloved children who will deeply miss him, Barbara Stoneburner, Robert “Bob” (Alice) Stoneburner, and Brenda (Nancy Deitz) Stoneburner. He also leaves behind his special friends, Ali Mecum, Candi and Jerry Storts and Zoe, as well as his grandson, Shane (Stacy) Stoneburner and their son, Logan Stoneburner; as well as his estranged grandson, Matthew Stoneburner and family, and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Stoney, also his extended Grandkids, Matt and Chelsea and their daughter, Wren and Kyle and Fedi and their sons, Kobe and Leone.
Stoney was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lola "Janice" Stoneburner of 69 years, his parents Bliss and Nora (Allen) Stoneburner, and his brothers, Paul Stoneburner, Edgar Stoneburner, and Cyril Stoneburner. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Stoney's life during a public viewing at Goebel Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Masonic services will be rendered at 7:30PM, by his fellow brothers of the Doric Lodge. The funeral service will be held at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 10700 ST. Rt. 669 Crooksville, Ohio 43731 on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM, where Stoney will be laid to rest next to his wife.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Stoney's memory to Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, 10041 Stoneburner Rd. Crooksville, Ohio 43731.
