Richard Leeth Cady

Richard L. Cady, 84 of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 2:26 PM, Monday, February 15, 2016 at Genesis Healthcare System in Zanesville following an extended illness.

He was born March 19, 1931 in Akron, the son of the late Ferry A. and Anita (Leeth) Cady, Sr.

Dick was a 1949 graduate of Crooksville High School where, during his junior year, his football team was MVL Champions. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens in 1956. He was an insurance agent and owned and operated Cady Insurance Agency on Main St. in Crooksville. Dick was the chairman of Crooksville's Centennial Celebration Committee in 1974 and, locally, America's Bi-Centennial Celebration Committee in 1976. He was an avid outdoor sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, motorcycles, jeeps and trapshooting. He was instrumental in the formation of the Crooksville Gun Club. Dick is a former member of Lafayette # 79 F & AM in Zanesville ., former member of the Crooksville Fire Department and Firemans' Club and a member of First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville. Dick served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeannine (Price) Cady; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chuck Rose of Crooksville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Jacqueline Cady of Thornville, Jeff and Brenda Cady of Newark and David and Amy Cady of Powell; his sister-in-law, Donna Long of Zanesville; his grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Doutt, James Powers, Jessica (Blake) Short, Justin Cady, Jennifer Cady, Jordan Rose, Bethany Cady, Luke Cady and Clay Cady; his great granddaughter, Gwendolyn Bettger and his niece, Karen (Cady) Mackey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ferry A. Cady, Jr. and his brother-in-law, Robert Long.

Family and friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Wednesday, February 17 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE where Peerless Lodge 591 will hold masonic services at 8 PM. Funeral services and a celebration of Dick's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 18 at the funeral home with Rev. Gay E. Blau and Rev. David Cady officiating. Burial will follow in Crooksville Cemetery.
