Peggy Christina Sharkey, 78, of New Lexington passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 following a brief illness.
She was born, the only daughter to the late Jessie and Betty (Williams) Nelson on March 13, 1948.
Peggy will be remembered as a woman whose warmth and love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She worked for many years at Nelson-McCoy Pottery, and later devoted herself to her home and family as a homemaker and loving mother. Her life was centered on caring for those she loved, and she gave that love generously. She found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. Peggy was especially fond of playing Bingo and was truly crazy about the game. She also loved card games, especially 500 Rummy, and enjoyed playing checkers. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose company she treasured deeply. To her children, she was not only a mother, but also a dear friend, and that closeness was a gift they will carry with them always. Peggy will be remembered for her kind spirit, her companionship, and the way she made others feel welcome and loved. She touched many lives, and she will be missed with deep affection.
Left behind to mourn her passing are her children, Lisa (Jeff) Dew, Stacy Needham (Ronald McManaway), Etta (Randy) Mullett and Mike (Nikki) Sharkey; her grandchildren, Kasie (Jason) Rose, Darrel McCormick, II., Nathan (Misty) Hinkle, Michael (Chelsie) Sharkey, Cynthia Ritchie and Raegan Needham; her great-grandchildren, Jason, Jaxon, Fenix, Ivy, Wade, Paisley, Beretta, Bailey and Brooklyn; her brother, Dean Nelson; and her sisters-in-law, Debbie Nelson, Susie Nelson and Shirley Nelson.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her life long partner, Harold "Snap" Sharkey, and her brothers, Jimmy Nelson, Donald Nelson, Earl Nelson, Pete Nelson, John Nelson and Richard Nelson.
Family and friends will be received 12pm-3:00pm, Friday, October 16, 2026, at Goebel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 36 North Buckeye St, Crooksville, Ohio 43731. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm at the funeral home with Chaplain Don Harris officiating. Peggy will then be buried in Crooksville Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the staff at the New Lexington Nursing Home who cared for Peggy the last 6 years and made her feel at home.
