Peggy Lee Clifford

Peggy Lee Clifford, 64, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 11:00 PM, Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Genesis Healthcare in Zanesville surrounded by her loving family following a very brief illness.

She was born August 30, 1952 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Howard and Juanita (Mullen) Walker.

Peggy graduated in 1973 with a Bachelors Degree in education from Ohio University and then, in 1998 completed her Masters' Degree in Gifted Education from Ohio University. In her early teaching career, she taught kindergarten through sixth grade at Portsmouth and Crooksville. She became coordinator for the Talented and Gifted Program at the Perry County E.S.C. Later, she assumed the same role at the Fairfield County E.S.C. where she retired in 2013. She was a volunteer for the Democratic Party. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid New England Patriots, Northwestern Wildcats and Chicago Cubs fan. Being a Harry Potter fan, she was a avid reader. Peggy especially loved beautiful flowers. When asked by her doctor what she would do if she had more time, Peggy said, "I would spend time with my grandkids, sit on my porch and walk to my pond."

Peggy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Douglas E. Clifford. Doug and Peggy began as high school sweethearts in 1969. In addition , she is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Bethany (Jeff) Clifford Smith of Evanston, Illinois, Stacy (Rudy) Clifford Simplican of Nashville, Tennesee and Kristen Lee Clifford and her finance, Adam Clapper of Chicago, Illinois; her son, Matthew Douglas Clifford of Cambridge, Ohio; her brother, Mike Walker and her grandchildren, Casey, Cody and Carly Simplican and Madeline Smith.

In keeping with Peggy's wishes, cremation will take place. Family and friends will be received 3:00-7:00 Friday, November 11 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE and 10:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 12. A memorial service and a celebration of Peggy's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday at the funeral home. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be hosted for the Clifford family at First Hope United Methodist Church, N. Buckeye St., Crooksville.
