Mary Alice (Whitehead) Syphers

January 15, 1927 — April 28, 2018

Mary Alice Syphers, 91, of Crooksville died on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Genesis Healthcare in Zanesville.

She was born on January 15, 1927 in Meigs County, the daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Pugh) Whitehead.

Mary Alice had worked for Essex Wire in Zanesville and in addition, she worked for Elliott Lumber. While employed for the local lumber company she served many roles, from secretary to front desk clerk. She was a member of the Roseville Garden Club and the Crooksville Craft Club. Mary Alice was also a devout, dedicated and active member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Crooksville.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha (John) Long of Heath, Deborah Allen of Zanesville and Sandra (James) Kelly of Chandlersville; her son, Kenneth "Bruce" (Debra) Syphers of Junction City; her sisters, Anna Mae Frame of Ocala, Florida, Helen Sands of South Zanesville, Ruby Core of Indianapolis, Indiana, Shirley (Jan) Harlan of Roseville and Donna Peck of Crooksville; her brothers, Richard (Mary Ann) Whitehead of Houston, Texas, James (Beth) Whitehead of Louisiana; her six grandchildren; her 19 great-grandchildren and her one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Mary Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Doris "Dick" R. Syphers who died, January 28, 2002; her sisters, Dora Novaria and Rahama Ulen; her brothers, Max Whitehead, Lloyd Whitehead and Francis Whitehead, Jr. and her great-granddaughter, Melanie Harrold.

Friends and family will be received, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Funeral services and a celebration of Mary Alice's life will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 2, at the Maple Avenue Christian Church, 245 Burley St., Crooksville with Rev. Con Wolf officiating. Mary Alice will be buried in Crooksville cemetery beside her beloved husband, Doris.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Alice's name to the Maple Avenue Christian Church. Envelopes will be made available.
