Marilyn Jane "Janie" Spencer

Marilyn Jane “Janie" Spencer, 84, of Zanesville, passed at 6:58 AM, Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville, following an extended illness.

Janie was born January 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Richard and Laverna Conaway Houk.

Janie was a retired school teacher for Roseville Schools, Athens City School District and Crooksville Schools. She was also a guidance counselor for Federal Hocking School District and Crooksville Schools. She was Methodist by faith.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Mickley of North Canton; her daughter-in-law, Kathi Spencer of Portersville; her grandchildren, Kristin (Toby) Gamble, Michael (Kim) Stine, Mark Stine, Sally (Thaddeus) Fields, Amy Spencer and Rebecca (Chris) Smith; her great-grandchildren, Stephen and Spencer Gamble, Cole, Mason and Kade Stine, Jordyn, Elias and Kaylyn Fields; her sister, Wanda Hull, of Athens and brother-in-law, Bill Tolley, of Crooksville.

In addition to her parents, Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, C. Richard Spencer who passed away July 21, 2014; her son, Jeffery Spencer and her daughter, Teresa “Teri" Spencer.

The family would like to extend thanks for all of the special care given by the staff of the Primrose Retirement Community, Hospice of Central Ohio and the staff of Home Instead Senior Care.

Friends and family will be received 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Tom Meyers officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Janie's name to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd., Newark, Ohio 43055. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
