LaVerna S. Houk

LaVerna S. Houk, 106, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 10:25 AM, Friday, January 4, 2013 at Autumn Health Care Center in Somerset.

LaVerna was born March 30, 1906 in Crooksville, the daughter of the late William Edward and Viola Fleming Conaway.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Houk was a lifelong member of Iliff United Methodist Church in McLuney. She was the church's oldest member and had formerly served as the church organist for many years. She was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.

LaVerna is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Jane and C. Richard Spencer of Portersville and Wanda Marie Hull of Athens; five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Houk who passed away May 18, 1985; her granddaughter, Teri Spencer, her grandson, Jeff Spencer; her sister, Ruby Spires and her brothers, Rollin Conaway and Kenneth Conaway.

Family and friends will be received at 1:30 PM, Sunday, January 6 at Iliff United Methodist Church, Flint Ridge Rd., Crooksville. Funeral services and a celebration of LaVerna's life will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday at the church with Raymond Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Crooksville Cemetery.
