John R. Gorby, Sr

John Ryan Gorby, Sr., 81, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 10:04 PM, Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 5, 1935 in Crooksville, the son of the late Calvin and Carol (Jeffers) Gorby.

John was retired from Rockwell International in Newark where he had held the position of superintendant. Following his retirement, he was the plant manager of Circuits D. M. A. in Lovinia, Michigan and also worked as a manufacturing consultant in various plants in Ohio and Michigan. He had served as treasurer of the former Crooksville Eagles Lodge Aerie 1979. He was a social member of the Crooksville-Roseville VFW. John spent many years coaching biddy league sports in Crooksville including football and baseball where he touched the lives of many of the community's youth. In 2007, he was inducted into the Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame. John was an avid Crooksville Ceramics and OSU Buckeyes fan. He loved boating, fishing, his pets and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda (Dalrymple) Gorby; his daughter and son-in-law, Jerris and Mark Patton of Crooksville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Tammy Gorby of Corning, Brent and Wendy Gorby and John R. Gorby, Jr. all of Crooksville; his sister, Julia Allen of New Lexington; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Woodward, Lindsey (Will) Lawson, Kayla (Cory) Daubenmire, Bryan Gorby, Jr., Ryan Gorby, Zack (Miranda) Gorby, Luke Gorby, Kyle (Audra) Patton, Clay Gorby and Curt Gorby; his great grandchildren, Brittany and Mitchell Swingle, Erin and Easton Woodward, Eylin and Kellan Lawson, Gunner and Makenna Patton and Sophia Gorby and his great great-granddaughter, Addison Calihan and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion Emmertt and his brothers, Jesse and Royal Gorby.

Family and friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Wednesday, September 7 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 8 at Church of The Atonement Catholic Church, 300 Winter St.,, Crooksville with Father Paul Noble officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, south of Crooksville.
