John Nicholas Altier, 72, of Twp. Rd. 161, Crooksville passed away at 3:39 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness.
He was born September 8, 1937 in Somerset, the son of the late John F. and Mary Gertrude Flautt Altier. John was a meat cutter and worked in the oil fields. He was a retired Perry County Commissioner and former Harrison Township trustee. John was one of the founders of the Crooksville Jaycees, a member of the New Lexington Elks 509, Corning Eagles and Crooksville Eagles 1979, former president of Biddy League football and music boosters. He was the former Chairman of Perry County Republican Party and a member of Church of the Atonement Catholic Church in Crooksville.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Susan Rambo Altier, his daughters and sons-in-law, Molly and Ernest Hughes of Moxahala, Mindy and James Swingle of Crooksville, Kerri and Brian Eveland of New Lexington and Melissa and Mike Brown of Denver Pennsylvania; his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Julie Altier of Zanesville, Paul and Sue Altier of New Lexington, Robert and Kathleen Altier of New Lexington and Tony Altier of Crooksville; his sisters, and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Thomas Flowers of Lancaster, Christine Altier of Columbus and Pamela Compston of New Lexington; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Ann Altier, Louis and Wanda Altier and Paul and Joaquin Altier all of Corning and William and Suzie Altier of Zanesville; twenty-three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brother, Donald Altier and two grandchildren, Dustin and Catherine Hughes.
The Altier family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 13 and 2-8 p.m., Friday, May 14 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where Eagles services will be held at 7:30 p.m. and a Vigil service will be at 8:00. A funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 15 at Church of the Atonement, Winter St., Crooksville. Burial will follow in Iliff Cemetery, McLuney.
