Jesse Skeenes, 88, of New Lexington passed away at 12:48 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Genesis Healthcare of New Lexington following an extended illness.
He was born August 12, 1926 in Perry County, Ohio the son of the late Jessee and Mary Beatrice Baron Skeenes Sowers.
Jesse was a United States Army Veteran who served during World War II and Protestant by faith. He was a retired coal miner for Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of Peerless Lodge #591 F. & A.M., Knight Masons of Dublin Ireland, Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio, Knights Templar Commandery No. 057 of New Lexington, the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio as well as a member of the American Legion Post #0726 of East Fultonham.
He is survived by his son, Warren (Diane) Skeenes of Crooksville; his daughters, Sally Hill of McConnelsville and Mary Jane (John Lucas) Cooper of Zanesville; his sisters, Anna Weakley of Roseville and Dolores Sowers of Columbus; his eleven grandchildren; his thirty-five great-grandchildren and his four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jesse is preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Veyon Skeenes who passed away May 17, 1997; his great-grandson, Landon Michael Hill; his sisters, Hazel McCray, Rosemary Manual and his brothers, Warren E. Skeenes, James Skeenes and Charles Hirshel Skeenes.
Friends and family will be received from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM & 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, with Masonic Services at 7:30 PM, Friday, September 19, 2014 at the GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Jesse's life will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 20 at the funeral home with Larry Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery with full military honors.
