James H. Freriks

James H. Freriks, 87, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 11:05 AM, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville following an extended illness.

Jim was born February 3, 1928 in Crooksville, the son of the late Henry and Ann Franz Freriks.He was a local business owner but known best as the owner of the Gem Ice Cream Company. He brought many smiles to children as he delivered ice cream across Perry and Muskingum counties.He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the US Air Force. Jim was a member of Church of The Atonement Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie 1979, VFW Post 9090 and American Legion Post 222, all in Crooksville and the Elks and Moose lodges in Lancaster. He was a 1951 graduate of The Ohio State University and remained an avid Buckeye football fan throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma Katherine Combs Freriks; his children and their spouses, Debbie and Jack Fisher of Zanesville, David and Cindy Freriks of New Lexington, Mike and Cathy Freriks of Zanesville, Tim and Lisa Freriks of Norwalk and Bobbi and Glen Holcombe of Glenford; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his long-time friend, Dr. Nelson Melick of Roseville and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Freriks and his granddaughters, Carly and Alyssa Freriks.Family and friends will be received 5-8 PM, Tuesday, May 5 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. A private graveside service will be held with Monsignor Tony Frecker officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery.
