Henry Clarence ‘Buck’ Harris, Jr., 96, of Crooksville, Ohio departed this life to join his sweetheart in Heaven at 5:55 am, Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at The Oaks at Bethesda in Zanesville. Buck was born November 1, 1929 in Redfield, one of nine sons of Henry C. and Blanche (Larson) Harris, Sr. While serving our country as a sergeant in the US Army in 1950, Buck married the love of his life, his sweetheart, Shirley (Cannon) Harris. When he had completed his service, he became a heavy equipment operator and mine foreman at Peabody Coal Company, working mainly at the Simco Mine in the Coshocton area. He later worked for Sidwell Brothers operating heavy equipment. Buck was very involved in many fraternal organizations. He was presented with a 70 year member award from Peerless Lodge 591 F & A M where held the distinction of 33rd degree Mason. His other membership include Scottish Rite of Cambridge, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, New Lexington Elks, Crooksville American Legion Post 222 and UMWA. He was a former member of Christ’s Church in Crooksville. Buck was a very proud, distinguished gentleman. He enjoyed keeping his vehicles and his personal appearance pristine. He was a kind and gentle man, dearly loved his family and friends and was quite proud of being ‘one of the Harris boys’. He will be sadly missed by many. Left behind to mourn his passing is his beloved daughter, Marsha L. Harris; his two surviving brothers, Gene (Bobi) Harris and Norman Harris and his grandchildren, Lesley Longstreth and Brandon (Shannon) Longstreth. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley (Cannon) Harris who passed away February 26, 2025 and his brothers, Howard (Norma), Jerry, David, William, Olaf ‘Doc’ (Helen) and Bob Larson. In keeping with Buck’s wishes, there will be no services, he will be cremated and later, his cremated remains will be interred with his parents and his wife at Mt. Horeb Cemetery.
