Gary Ray "Reno" Ater

Gary Ray "Reno" Ater, 66, of Crooksville passed quietly away surrounded by his family at 12:25 AM, Wednesday, December 18, 2013.

He was born on April 21, 1947 in Zanesville, the son of the late Melvin "Perk" Ater and Dortha Bolyard Carr of Crooksville .

Gary was a former coal miner for Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Crooksville Fraternal Order of Eagles 1979, Y-City Hogs and greatly enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Gottke Ater whom he married November 1, 2008; his daughters, Amanda and Scott Marshall of Crooksville and Heather Swingle of New Concord; his sons, Eric Ater of Crooksville and Darin and Shelly Ater of Roseville; his sister, Marcia Sheilds of Richmond, Va; his brothers, Scott and Trina Carr and Joe Carr all of Crooksville; his grandchildren, Daralyn Ater, Sydney and Olivia Marshall and Skylar and Drew Rackley; the mother of his sons, Jeanie Willison Ater and his beloved dogs, Sammy and Dutch.

In addition to his father, Gary is preceded in death by his brother, Tom Carr and his brother-in-law, Scott Shields.

Family and friends will be received 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, December 20, 2013 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST. CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Gary's life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 21st at the funeral home with Pastor Marc Caton officiating. In keeping with Gary's wishes, he will be cremated.

Contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the Perry County Cancer Alliance, P.O. Box 724, New Lexington, Ohio 43764. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
