Elinor K. Madden Tucker

Elinor Kathryn Madden Tucker, 96, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 3:20 AM, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at New Lexington Care and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Elinor was born February 3, 1916 in Perry
County, the daughter of the late Willis and Winifred Coleman Madden.

From 1939 until 1971, she was the editor of the Crooksville-Roseville Messenger. She wrote a golf column for the paper and after the Messenger joined with the Perry County Tribune and moved to New Lexington, she worked in their accounting department. Mrs. Tucker was on the Board of Trustees of the Perry County Library from 1969 until she retired from the board in 2000. Elinor was the Zanesville Women's tennis champion in 1936. She held the title of club champion at the Perry County Golf Club for many years. She was a former member of the women's golf leagues of Eaglesticks, Zanesville Jaycees and Rushcreek. She was also a member of Crooksville Craft Club, Clionion Circle and Higher Ideals Music Club. Elinor was a member of First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville.

She is survived by her cousins and their spouses, Mike and Jill Coleman of Malta and Gary and LuAnne Coleman of Ashville and many close friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Tucker who passed away in 1977; her aunt, Mary Pearl Coleman and her uncle, Charles Coleman, who together raised her after the death of her mother when Elinor was very young; her fiance', Charles Oscar Abrams; her close friends, Rose Bierly, Charlene Davis and Gwen Willison.

Family and friends will be received at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 22, 2012 at First Hope United Methodist Church, 102 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where funeral services and a celebration of Elinor's life will be held at 12:00 Noon with Rev. John Kay officiating. Burial will follow in East Fultonham Cemetery next to her husband.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Hope United Methodist Church or Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the church.
