Christopher Lee Bates, 40, of Crooksville, died on Monday, January 9, 2023, as the result of a homicide.
He was born September 25, 1982, in Zanesville, a son to his parents, Marvin Bates and Gloria (Grundy) Ryan.
Christopher was a caring soul, always wanting to have a good time and share a smile with his family and friends. He was well known for collecting rocks and walking around Crooksville and Roseville. He was a person who very much enjoyed traveling, even moving himself around the country, from Arkansas, Oregon and Idaho. His family and the community are deeply saddened by his death and the crime surrounding it.
He is survived by a whole host of family and friends, his parents, Marvin Bates and Gloria (Charles) Ryan; his siblings, Michael Bates, Cheryl Bates and Kimberly Bates; his half-sister, Brooklynn Watts; his step-siblings, Charles (Katelyn) Ryan and Nicholas Ryan; his aunts and uncles, James Bates, George Bates, Teresa Bates, Albert (Christina) Grundy, Billy (Cathy) Bailey ad Barbie (Brad) Welker and his niece and nephews, Preston, Jayden and Isabella and several special cousins.
Chris is preceded in death by grandparents Steve Bates, Diane Bailey and a special grandmother, Betty Johnson, as well as, his uncle Terry Bates.
The Bates family would like to invite friends to pay their final respects to Chris from 3-5:00 PM, Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Following visitation, his parents have made the decision to have Chris cremated and carry his remains with them.
Donations may be made in Christopher’s name to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
