Catherine Irene Nelson

Catherine Irene Nelson, 83, of Somerset, Ohio, formerly of Crooksville passed away at 9:00 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2015 at her daughter's residence in Somerset.

She was born October 29, 1931 in Moxahala, the daughter of the late Clarence and Viola Saxton Dunwoody.

Catherine was a homemaker, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She loved to prepare food to feed all of the family and friends that visited her home. She insisted that everyone eat while at her home and if you left hungry, it was your own fault. Catherine also loved snow and continued to sleigh ride into her elderly years. She was a devoted member of the Free Methodist Church in Crooksville.

Catherine is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha & Ronnie Vandermark of Portersville, Brenda Price of Somerset, Sharon Nelson of Zanesville, Robin & Ken Yuchasz of Somerset and Jennifer & Phillip Bohn of Zanesville; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Carol Nelson of Dripping Springs, Texas; her sisters, Nellie (Ben) Kirkbride and Garnet Hampp, all of White Cottage and Waneta NoGrady of Glouster; her brother, Leonard Dunwoody of Zanesville; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Rupert Nelson, who passed away March 26, 2004; her infant daughter, Sandra, her grandson, five brothers and five sisters.

Family and friends will be received 4:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Catherine's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 25 at the Free Methodist Church, 169 W. Main St., Crooksville with Rev. Rhonda Harmless officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband in Crooksville Cemetery.
