Catherine E. Eveland

Catherine Elizabeth Eveland, 86, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Crooksville passed away at 3:30 AM, Friday, January 25, 2013 at Omni Manor Healthcare Center in Youngstown following an extended illness.

Catherine was born March 2, 1926 in Crooksville, the daughter of the late Edward Leo and Mary 'Mamie' Clements Longstreth.

She was a life-long member of Church of The Atonement Catholic Church in Crooksville. Mrs. Eveland was a former employee of The Hull Pottery Company in Crooksville. She was a member of VFW Post 9090 Auxiliary. Catherine was an avid bowler for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and, in her later years, loved to do word searches.

Catherine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Jerry Straccia of Tucson, Arizona; her granddaughters and their spouses, Melissa and Tim Gilliland, Jennifer and Rob Tallo and Amanda Wood; her great granddaughters, Brittany Moore and Kaitlyn Gilliland, who were the apples of her eyes; her beloved nephew, Fred (Paula) Longstreth of Newark; her niece, Judy (Jim)Schumacher and great niece, Julie Schumacher, all of Zanesville and her best friend, Gera Pompey of Crooksville.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Donald R. Eveland who passed away October 30, 1998; her sons, Michael and Stephen Eveland and her brothers, Thomas and John Longstreth.

Family and friends will be received 4:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, January 27 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE where The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 28 at Church of The Atonement Catholic Church, 310 Winter St., Crooksville with Father Daniel Dury as celebrant. Catherine will be laid to rest next to her husband and her sons in St. Joseph Cemetery near Crooksville. A bereavement meal will be served by her parish family in the church social hall following the interment.
