Carolyn June Bateson

Carolyn June Bateson, 92, peacefully passed away in the morning hours of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Aviata Nursing Home in New Lexington.

She was born on December 27, 1933, in Zanesville, a daughter to the late, Kenneth and Mary (Neal) Bateson.

Carolyn spent most of her life working, dedicating herself faithfully to her jobs and the responsibilities she carried through the years. She worked for Essex Wire, the Jupiter Store, and later retired from K-Mart. Her strong work ethic was a defining part of her life and reflected the steady, dependable spirit she brought to those around her. In the last six years of her life, Carolyn made her home at Aviata Nursing Home in New Lexington, where she became a familiar and beloved presence among fellow residents and staff. She loved socializing and sharing time with others, and she was fondly known as the resident Candyman, where she gave out candy and brightened the days of those around her. Carolyn took joy in caring for herself and in expressing her style. She loved having her hair done and her nails manicured, and she was always dressed up. A collector of clothes and especially shoes, she delighted in putting together outfits with shoes to match. Carolyn also found happiness in the simple pleasures that brought people together. She loved playing BINGO and earned the title of resident champion. She also enjoyed watching baseball, with a special fondness for the Cincinnati Reds.

Carolyn is survived in life by her niece and nephew and caretakers, Tina Wolfe and Randy Embrey; several other nieces and nephews as well as her sister-in-law, Linda Bateson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Mary Bateson and her siblings, Nancy (Max) Embrey, Sue Ann (Harry) Smith and Richard Bateson.

In keeping with Carolyn's wishes, she will be cremated and her remains will be buried at a later date in Iliff Cemetery.
