C. Richard Spencer

Charles Richard 'Dick' Spencer, 85, of North Canton, Ohio, formerly of Portersville passed away at 8:20 AM, Monday, July 21, 2014 at The Inn at Whitewood, North Canton following an extended illness.

Dick was born December 3, 1928 in Crooksville, the son of the late Harry Spencer and Gladys (Harper) Spencer.

He was an electrician at the Ohio Power Company until the early 1960's. He then became a union electrician with IBEW Union Local 972 and worked in that capacity until 1974. After that, Dick owned and operated his own dairy farm from which he retired. He was a former member of the Methodist church in Crooksville. He was a 60 year member of Peerless Lodge 591 F & A M in Crooksville.

Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Jane (Houk) Spencer; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Mickley of North Canton; his daughter-in-law, Kathi Spencer of Portersville; his grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin and Toby Gamble, Michael and Kim Stine, Mark Stine, Sally and Thaddeus Fields, Amy Spencer and Rebecca and Chris Smith; his great-grandchildren, Stephen and Spencer Gamble, Cole, Mason and Kade Stine, Jordyn, Elias and Kaylyn Fields; his sister-in-law, Wanda Hull of Athens and his brother-in-law, Bill Tolley of Crooksville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa 'Teri' Spencer who passed away December 4, 1991; his son, Jeffrey Spencer who passed away November 22, 1999; his sister, Jeannine Tolley and his step-mother, Ada (Cannon) Spencer.

Family and friends will be received 11:00 AM until 12 noon, Thursday, July 24 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE.
Funeral services and a celebration of Dick's life will be at 12 noon on Thursday at the funeral home with Cy Copeland and Tony Pettet officiating. Cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crooksville High School Hall of Fame, 4075 Ceramic Way, Crooksville, OH 43731. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Dick was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.
