Betty Jo Speakman

Betty Jo Speakman, 54, of Tarlton, Ohio, formerly of Crooksville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2024 at her residence.

She was born on Monday, June 16, 1969 in Zanesville, the daughter of Floyd Thorp who survives and the late Margaret ‘Peggy’ (nee: O’Neil) Thorp.

Betty is also survived by her beloved daughters, Kayla (Christopher) Burris and Alexis (John) Turner; one special granddaughter, Audrey Turner; her siblings, Teresa ‘Cookie’ (Harold) Hines, Lori Thomas, Floyd Thorp, Jr. (Rene) and Cathy Hinkle; several nieces and nephews who knew her as ‘Aunt Betty’; her special friend, T and numerous other special family members and friends whom she cherished.

In addition to her mother, Betty was preceded in death by her twin sister, Billie Wnek; her brother-in-law, Danny Thomas; her business partner and companion, Jack Fisher and her lifelong friend and father of her children, Brian Speakman.

Betty was a 1988 graduate of Crooksville High School. She was co-owner and auctioneer for Wagon Wheel Auction Company in Laurelville. She worked for General Electric in Circleville where she took an early retirement at the closing of the plant, then she returned to the workforce making auto parts for TriMold. Betty was a devoted mother to her two daughters and was dearly loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed gardening, watching hummingbirds, caring for and loving her dogs, watching her favorite football team, the Buckeyes but most especially, she loved her girls and caring for her family. Many cherished times was time spent together. She will be deeply missed.

The family will receive friends 4-8 pm, Friday, June 21, 2024 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 22 at the funeral home with Deacon Mark Weiner as celebrant. Betty will be laid to rest near many of her family members in Crooksville Cemetery. A dinner will follow at the VFW Post 9090 in Crooksville.
