Claudine E. Appleman, 98, of Malta died on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at her son's home following a long well-lived life.
She was born October 6, 1919 in Milligan's Bend, Perry County, the daughter of the late George Walter and Ica (Snide) Rosser.
Retiring from Essex Wire in Zanesville and maintaining her membership at Iliff United Methodist Church-just up the road from where she was born, Claudine was a feisty woman, who lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed the thrill of playing the slot machines and other fun forms of gambling that instilled a rush upon winning. When she wasn't cashing in on her winnings, Claudine was spending her time being more domesticated, whether it be raising her children, caring for her many many grandchildren, great-grandchildren or even her great-great-grandchildren. Always one to require a large backyard garden, Claudine would always put visitors to work, pulling weeds or picking green beans. Claudine also enjoy her alone time, much of which she spent relaxing and working on hundreds of crossword puzzles. She was a loving woman who will be missed by her entire family and friends in Perry and Morgan Counties.
Surviving Claudine in life is her daughter, Mary Lou (James) Campbell; her sons, George (Dana) Smith, Ronnie (Dee) Smith, Randy (Vicki) Smith; her step-sons, David Appleman and Steve (Cathy) Appleman; her nurse, Jody Woneymaker and her aid, Pam Gavin.
In addition to her parents, Claudine is preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Smith who died in 1972; her second husband, Charles Appleman who died in 2010; her sons, Harry 'Sonny' Smith and Richard Smith; her grandson, Brian Smith; her sisters, Martha Cavinee, Anna Watkins and Rosalie Wood and her brother, John Rosser.
Friends and family will be received, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. Funeral services and a celebration of Claudine's life will be received 11:00 AM, Friday, June 29, at the funeral home. Claudine will be laid to rest in Iliff Cemetery next to her husband, Harry.
